1. Background: Kenya Semi -Arid Livestock Enhancement Support (K-SALES) is a USDA funded project in Kenya being implemented by Land O'Lakes in six counties namely; Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Taita Taveta, Meru and Tharaka Nithi. 

It seeks to increase productivity and expand trade in the meat value chain and by-products with specific focus on cattle, sheep and goats.
 
Among other interventions, the project seeks to increase the flow of credit to livestock value chains that will fuel investment in improved agricultural technologies. 

This will involve close collaboration between financial institutions and livestock enterprises to overcome barriers that hinder access to the formal financial sector. 

In particular, K-SALES will facilitate access to financial services by improving the creditworthiness of producers through better farm management planning and practices as well as record keeping.
