Job Description:
Business Unit:
The SWIFT division is part of the Wafer Inspection Group (WIG) of KLA-Tencor and consists in an organization globally located in US, Germany, India, and Singapore.
 
The SWIFT division has the mission to provide cost-effective solutions for high-sampling wafer inspection applications. We effectively partner with field support teams and customers to lower overall fab costs by supplying world-leading high-throughput inspection, metrology and review systems. Our comprehensive product portfolio includes: all-wafer-surface (front side, backside, and edge) macro inspection, standalone high-sampling inspection, and standalone edge inspection and metrology tools that are deployed across several advanced wafer fabs for a large number of applications.
 
Besides developing valuable products, the SWIFT division provides support to the customers to achieve performance entitlement through the sharing and implementation of applications.
 
Responsibilities:
The role will report to the Strategic Technology Development team. The team is responsible for developing strategic technologies to solve customer challenges and position for further growth.

Some of the daily activities include the following:
a) Develop technical solutions by understanding and articulating customer problems.
b) Research existing competitive environment and evaluate advantages and limitations of available technologies.
c) Develop new technologies for future growth.

The new hire will have the opportunity to work on advanced technologies and handle challenging problems.  The new hire will have some of the following detailed responsibilities:
1) Draft research plan and proposals and update program progress
2) Generate technical reports and work with engineers to implement validated new technologies for product 
3) Closely work with application and marketing teams, articulating customer challenges into technical solutions 
4) Validate new research ideas using simulation and/or bench-top experimental set-ups. Investigating competitive technologies and evaluate their pros and cons.
Preferred Qualifications
1) Expect  proven success in at least 3 of the following fields:
  • Optical instruments system engineering,
  • Algorithm development with C/C++,
  • Hardware setup, such as optical bench-top for experiment,
  • Image process
  • Optical engineering, and
  • Firmware with FPGA/GPU
2) Experience with project management, strong presentation and communication skills are a plus
3) Successful candidate needs strong team work skills and self-motivation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate Level Degree with <1 years of experience.
OR
Master's Level Degree with at least 3 years of experience.

Senior Staff Laser Research Scientist (UV laser design)

Business Unit:
The Corporate Technology Group develops key technology used in KLA-Tencor's inspection and metrology systems. We research, analyze and prototype key technologies such as sensors, lasers and optics. When the technology is proven to meet requirements, we work with KLA-Tencor product divisions and key suppliers to implement the technology into KLA-Tencor's products.

Job Description:
If you are selected for this position, you will work with a world-class team developing key technology for KLA-Tencor's semiconductor inspection and metrology systems.

As a technical leader of UV laser development within KLA-Tencor, your responsibilities will include:
  • Characterizing lasers and frequency conversion devices.
  • Designing and running experiments to understand and improve the performance of UV lasers and frequency conversion systems.
  • Evaluating the data from long-term laser performance and stability tests.
  • Developing solutions to improve the stability and lifetime of UV lasers while increasing the laser power.
  • Working with KLA-Tencor product divisions to incorporate your designs into their inspection and metrology systems.
  • Working with suppliers to incorporate your designs into systems built for KLA-Tencor.

Qualifications/Education Desired:
  • Ph.D. in Optics or Physics with 6 years' experience developing high performance UV lasers.
  • Must have a deep understanding of lasers, frequency conversion and non-linear optics.
  • Must be able to perform simulations and analyze data using programs such as MatLab, Labview or Python.
  • Must be a team player with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience designing capital equipment such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate (Academic) with at least 5 years of experience.
